How do I turn off conciseness in word on iPhone app?

I’ve seen so many responses by you guys that have nothing to do with these questions. I don’t think actual people are even responding to these questions. I think you are using AI and that’s why the answers make no sense. It’s not my iPhone settings. It’s very clearly the app making the suggestions. My iPhone doesn’t use conciseness.

I don’t want to turn off autocorrect or predictive text. I just want the app to stop trying to make my writing so formal. I don’t want to be more concise. It doesn’t make any sense to say “it is not” instead of “it isn’t”. I don’t want to remove words of emphasis to make my writing “more clear for the reader”. I want all of the other option EXCEPT conciseness. It’s a stupid option for grade school english teachers and literally no one else. I’m not writing a memo. I’m not writing an office email. If I were, I know how to write clearly. I don’t want to be more concise in my personal writing or essays.

When I go to editing, then the review tab, there isn’t another option called the “editor button”. I just have the options for “proofing tools” that only lets me turn “spelling” and “grammar” off. Obviously I still want those on. Then “word count”, “comments”, and “tracking changes”.

If it can’t be turned off, just say that. Don’t make stuff up. And if it can’t be turned off, WHY??? It’s a stupid addition that literally no one wants. If anything, it should be an option to turn on if you really don’t understand how to write clearly. In the sentence I just wrote, it would be nagging me to remove “really”. But it adds emphasis to the sentence. It makes sense. As well as the other adjectives and adverbs I use. I’m not writing to a robot, I HOPE, those words add mood. intent. feeling. frustration. I don’t want to remove them.

Thank you!

    Hello Grant,

Your engagement sparks valuable discussions, and we're grateful for your input.

As per your description, you are correct! To adjust these settings, open Word and go to Review > Proofing Tools. While there isn’t a specific toggle for conciseness, you can disable Grammar & Refinements entirely if you find the suggestions intrusive. However, this will also turn off other helpful grammar checks. The Editor feature in Word provides writing suggestions, including conciseness, clarity, and formality, but these settings are bundled together under Grammar & Refinements.

Unfortunately, Microsoft Word on iPhone does not currently offer a direct option to disable the Conciseness suggestions separately from other grammar and style checks.

Your feedback is valuable, and if you'd like Microsoft to consider improvements, you can share your thoughts directly through the Help & Feedback section in the app. This ensures your concerns reach the right team and contribute to future updates that better fit users’ needs.

I hope these insights bring you closer to resolving your concern.

    Regards,

    Matt | Microsoft Community Moderator

Genuinely, thank you for your response! It’s the most thoughtful and informative I’ve read on any of these threads.

With today’s technology, it’s very likely that you could still be an AI. But I’ve been scouring the internet for answers and they all point to the same question with irrelevant responses. Whether you are a person or a bot, thank you.

It’s a frustrating feature. Its annoying. But the grammar options are more helpful than this option is trouble.

So, I suppose I’ll accept the tool as part of the package.
