As I understand it the free LibreOffice can edit/create pub docs - no need to purchase anything.

I have gone on record already to oppose discontinuing Publisher. Like some others have said, Microsoft's alternatives do not fit the bill. Power Point does not have the flexibility that Publisher does, and Word doesn't even come close. Trying to do in Word what I do with Publisher (overlapping faces to bodies, changing backgrounds, etc.) would be a nightmare as just inserting a .jpg in a Word document can be a pain when you use text. I write children's books and have written a series of 14, as well as a few other books where I use "illustrations" with the narratives. Saying the other two apps can be alternatives to Publisher is this regard is not true.
I worry that should I purchase the 2021 Office to keep Publisher and discontinued the annual subscriptions, the documents I have created in 2024 will not align. Is this so?
