How to record powerpoint presentation with camera included in the recording but not shown in the screen presentation?

Students in the live presentation do not need (or want) to see the camera window on the screen, they have the live presenter. But those watching the recording later would like to see the presenter in the recording.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting the issue in the community forum.

To achieve the setup where the presenter’s camera is recorded but not shown on the screen during the live presentation, you can follow these steps:

    • Use PowerPoint’s Recording Feature: Open PowerPoint and go to "Record" in the ribbon >> Click "Record Presentation" to enter the recording mode >> Ensure the camera is turned ON so that PowerPoint records both the slides and the presenter's video.
    • Hide the Camera Feed During Live Presentation: PowerPoint lets users choose whether to show or hide the camera feed on the slide. Before presenting live, ensure the camera feed is hidden from the slideshow view, so the live audience only sees the slides.
    • Use Third-Party Recording Software: If PowerPoint does not meet the exact needs, use a tool like OBS Studio or Camtasia. These allow for recording the presenter and the PowerPoint slides separately. Later edit it according to your need.
    • Share the Recorded Presentation with Both Slides and Presenter’s Video: Once recorded, export the presentation as a video file and make sure the final video includes the presenter’s camera feed, but during the live session, it remains hidden.

Hopefully, this method ensures that live students only see the slides, while later viewers see both the presenter and the slides in the recording.

    Sincerely,

    Sam | Microsoft Community Moderator.

Thanks - this is same as what GPT told me(!).

I doubt the second point, I found that disabling the camera for viewing also disabled it for recording, I did not find two different controls for this, am I missing something?

You can hide the camera feed in PowerPoint during a live presentation using the Cameo feature. Here’s how:

    1. Open PowerPoint and go to the slide where the camera feed is displayed.
    2. Select the Cameo object (the camera feed) on the slide.
    3. Turn off the camera feed: Click on the Camera tab in the ribbon > Toggle the Preview button to turn off the live feed.
    4. Ensure it's hidden in Slide Show mode: Go to the Slide Show tab > Click Set Up Slide Show and check that the camera feed is disabled.
    5. Start your presentation and confirm that only the slides are visible.
