Sorry, I don't know why Mendeley support would think Microsoft could fix a problem with their add-in. You might try a different add-in, like Zotero for iPad.

Dear all,
I have been working exclusively with Word on my iPad for a long time and use the Mendeley Add-in for literature citations. For a few weeks now, this has not been working. Mendeley only inserts a space in a new document and then cannot be used. The only thing that works is logging out and logging back in. In a document with a failed attempt and also in old documents that I have previously used with the Add-in in Literature, no further action can be performed. As soon as I create a completely new document, I can once again insert a space, followed by the Add-in crashing. Mendeley Support advises me to clear my web cache. On a Mac, this should be done via a menu that appears when you click on a small gray info field in the upper right corner of the add-in window. However, I don't have the info field in the iPad add-in window. According to the recommendation (Clear the Office cache - Office Add-ins | Microsoft Learn), this should also be possible by deleting and reinstalling all Office programs from the iPad. However, this did not help. The third recommendation from Mendeley Support was to contact Microsoft Support. I didn't find anything there either, just a note saying to ask the Microsoft community. So here I am! What should I do to get my Mendelex add-in working again?
Thanks, Martin Wald

As John said, Mendeley is passing the buck. Microsoft is not responsible for ensuring a 3rd party product works with Word.
Consider the following scenario. You purchase some seat covers for your Ford vehicle and discover they don't fit. Would you expect Ford to modify its seats so that the covers fit? No. You would go back to where you purchased the seat covers and get them to correct the problem.
The same is true if the covers once fit, but Ford had to recall the vehicle and replace the seats. If the seat cover no longer fit the seat, Ford will not fix the seat covers. It's a risk you take when you purchase a 3rd party add-on.
