Access Form Loads Slowly Top-to-Bottom After Windows 11 24H2 (Build 26100.4061) Update

After updating to Windows 11 version 24H2 (build 26100.4061), I've encountered a major performance issue with Microsoft Access. Specifically:

  • Access forms that previously loaded instantly now render slowly from top to bottom, visibly displaying controls line by line.
  • This happens only on machines running Windows 11 24H2.
  • The exact same Access front-end .accde file works flawlessly on Windows 11 23H2 (build 22631.5039) and older.

Environment:

  • Microsoft Access 64-bit (part of Office 365 Business)
  • Backend: SQL Server 2019
  • ODBC Driver: I’ve tested both ODBC 17 and 18 for SQL Server
  • DSN: Trusted_Connection = Yes, Encrypt = Optional or No
  • Trusted Locations have been set correctly

Troubleshooting I’ve Done:

  • Asked Chatgpt
  • Asked Gemini
  • Asked Claud
  • Asked deepseek
  • Asked google
  • Asked youtube
  • Asked reddit
  • Disabled antivirus and Defender features
  • Tried disabling “Suggested Actions” (not available in Settings UI on 24H2)
  • Verified all other drivers are up to date
  • Rebuilt forms and removed images — no change
  • Performance issues are identical across two different 24H2 machines and no issue on the third on 23H2

>The only current solution that worked is to rollback the update to 23H2 but this isn't possible on some computers where some time has passed on since the update happened.

I've seen a number of posts indicating issues once people switched to Windows 11.

One thing to look at that some mentioned helped was updating their network drivers. Also, be sure not to use Microsoft's drivers and go get the official manufacturers drivers.

Out of curiosity, are you working over wireless or wired LAN connection?

    ✅ What Finally Fixed It

I stopped using Windows Authentication (Trusted_Connection=Yes) and switched to SQL Server Authentication in my Access front end using a direct DSN-less ODBC connection.

✅ Access forms now load instantly again, even on Windows 11 24H2.

The help found on this forum is from fellow Access users. We aren't Microsoft employees. Your guess is as good as mine on what Microsoft is doing.

I'd use the feedback hub or feedback portal to report the issue.
