Dear Carla Barber,
I hope you have a good day. Thanks for choosing Microsoft Q&A forum.
We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue. Based on your description, it’s possible that your colleague’s files were shared with you, which would explain why they appear in your OneDrive, particularly under the Shared or Home tabs.
By default, OneDrive files are private and only visible to the account owner unless explicitly shared.
If your colleague has shared files with you, they will appear under the 'Home' or 'Shared' sections in OneDrive. This would explain why you're able to view them.
Go to OneDrive > select the file > click Share > then Manage Access to review or remove permissions.
If you're using an education account, some files may be shared across the organization by default. These files are typically owned by the institution, not the individual user.
To assist you better, could you please provide a bit more information about the issue you're encountering?
- Is your OneDrive account personal or education (This is an organizational account provided by a company or educational institution) account?
- What type of OneDrive account does your colleague use?
- If your account is an education account, are you the account administrator?
- Have these two OneDrive accounts synced OneDrive to the local computer before?
- Are you and your colleague accessing OneDrive through the desktop app or via the web browser?
- Could you please confirm which section of OneDrive you're viewing when you see your colleague's files? For example, are you in the Home, Shared, My Files or Recent tab
Once we have this information, we can proceed with targeted troubleshooting steps.
In mean time, you can try to clear cached credentials. If you're using the OneDrive sync client or Office apps, clear any cached credentials via Credential Manager on Windows.
If you choose to clear your cache, please be aware that this action will sign you out of all accounts. Make sure you're prepared to sign in again afterward.
- Press Windows + S, type Credential Manager, and open it.
- Go to Windows Credentials
- Look for any entries related to your old work or Microsoft 365 account (e.g., MicrosoftOffice16_Data:<your_email>)
- Click Remove on those entries
I sincerely apologize for asking multiple questions regarding your issue. Please know that my intention is to fully understand your situation so I can provide you with the most accurate and effective support possible.
I truly appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation throughout this process. Your collaboration means a lot.
