Hello Gaspard,
The newPDFRendering feature in Azure Managed Grafana is designed to significantly speed up dashboard-to-PDF exports, promising much shorter generation times especially for large, complex dashboards. This enhancement became generally available in open-source Grafana v11.5, but its experience on Azure Managed Grafana can differ.
Here’s the current situation based on recent updates and user reports:
• Even if your Azure Managed Grafana instance was upgraded to v11.6, the newPDFRendering feature is not enabled by default in managed environments. Users needing this feature typically have to enable it via a feature toggle, but in Azure Managed Grafana, the ability to toggle such features is often not exposed directly in the UI or portal.
• As of now, many users report continuing long export times and timeouts for PDF generation after upgrading—a sign that the new feature is either still unavailable or not activated in Azure’s managed service.
• If you’re not seeing any changes in your PDF export experience, you’re not alone. The managed service team is currently evaluating and working on supporting this new feature, but there isn’t a clear timeline for when it will be available to everyone on Azure Managed Grafana.
• In short: You likely can’t enable newPDFRendering yourself right now. You’ll need to wait for the Azure Managed Grafana service to fully support and automatically roll out the new implementation in a future update.
If you rely heavily on PDF exports and speed is a concern, keep an eye on service announcements or reach out to Azure support for an update on the rollout status. For now, managing expectations around export performance is unfortunately necessary.
Best Regards,
Jerald Felix
