We had an app service domain that expired on 7/14/2025. It was set to auto renew in the azure portal but did not renew automatically.

Today (7/17/2025) we received a suspicious looking email from secureserver dot net telling us our domain was expired. We had not received any prior communication about the domain with normal azure messaging format / details. The email included a case number but I don't want to share that here since it seems this may be a public forum.

Note1: Auto Renew was already set when I investigated and I believe has been set for a significant portion of the domain's life (>=1 year)

Note2: I was able to manually renew the domain although I did need to force refresh my browser to see the expiration date updated.

Note3: Several weeks ago we did get a standard Azure email notification that our attached SSL certificate failed to auto-renew because we needed to verify domain ownership which seems odd given the domain is registered through azure as well.

Note4: The subscription is a Pay-as-you-go subscription and we have not been notified of any issues with billing.
