2025-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5062553), then I click on the download and install. About 20 minutes go by and it comes back as a 'Fail Install"

Please tell me how to fix this. Thanks

    Dear CathyB,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A.

It sounds like you're having trouble installing the 2025-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5062553). The update downloads successfully, but after about 20 minutes, it fails with a "Fail Install" message. To solve this issue, you could try following some methods below:

    1. Run Windows Update Troubleshooter:
      • Press Windows + I, select Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
      • Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and apply recommended fixes
    2. Free up disk space:
      • Windows updates require at least 10-20GB of free space
      • Press Windows + R, type "cleanmgr" and run Disk Cleanup
      • Delete all temporary files, old Windows updates and system junk
    3. Manually Download & Install the update:
      • Go to the Microsoft Update Catalog
      • Search for KB5062553 and download the correct x64 version for Windows 11 24H2
      • Double-click the downloaded file to install it manually
    4. If nothing above works, you can also try to fix the issue by performing an In-place Upgrade. Please read this Reinstall Windows with the installation media - Microsoft Support image Disclaimer: Let's try performing an in-place install or in-place upgrade which will refresh your Windows files and operating system without removing files or applications. That being said, we always recommend that if you have important data, you should back up it up before making large system changes. If you want to back up your data first, please do so. Once you are done backing up, you can follow the steps in the following guides: How to run In-place upgrade in Windows 11 - Microsoft Q&A

I have this issue in one of our AVD servers which run Windows 11 Enterprise Multisession. Downloading an iso to do an inplace upgrade is not an option. I'll wait for the August update (tonight) to see if that makes any difference. If that doesn't help i'll have to redeploy the OS from image definition.

Other servers in the Pool do have this update but apperentely one has difficulties.. They all come from the same sysprepped Image.
