Unfortunately, this is the only settings that you can choose or modify the search engine in MS edge. (It's reverting back to bing could be after reboot since it is designed that way and part of system policies)
There is an advance way of checking system policies but it is not advisable as it may cause instability of MS edge.
Step 1: Remove MS Edge search policies
- Open CMD as administrator (Search cmd, right-click and select "Run as administrator")
- Run the commands one-by-one REG DELETE "HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge" /f REG DELETE "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge" /f
- Reboot your computer
Step 2: Remove bing search function (registry)
- Press Win + R and type regedit
- Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
- Delete the entire EDGE folder if it exists in either location
- Restart edge and check-reboot PC open edge and check again.
Disclaimer: Do it at your own risk.
Repeat the selection of search engine and make it to google again. If all done and still goes back to bing search, that means we cannot bypass and override Microsoft policies. I suggest to use another browser that is not associated to bing, like Brave or Firefox.
