Not sure why, but when using Serving endpoint databricks-claude-3-7-sonnet I begun getting error

- databricksException - {\"error_code\":\"PERMISSION_DENIED\",\"message\":\"PERMISSION_DENIED: Endpoint databricks-claude-3-7-sonnet is not allowed to be used by your workspace. Please reach out to Databricks to enable this endpoint for your workspace or upgrade your workspace tier.\"}', 'status_code': '401'

Ever since, any databricks instance I have or attempt to create new (all Premium tier, these models are not there anymore as serving endpoints. Anyone came across this?

I am wondering is it because I am using a sponsorship subscription and Azure has temporary removed these models due to their availability?

    Hi Thomas Thornton
Thanks for your patience while we looked into this.

We checked with the product group, and it turns out that access to some Anthropic models (like Claude 3.7 Sonnet) is currently gated due to high demand. In some cases, these models won’t appear in the UI, and access can only be enabled by contacting a Databricks representative directly.

We’re also working on some improvements on our end to help avoid this kind of confusion in the future.

If you have a Databricks point of contact, I’d recommend reaching out to them directly. Let us know if you need help finding the right channel.

Happy to assist further as needed.

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

The error message you're seeing means your Azure Databricks workspace doesn’t currently have permission to use the Claude 3.7 Sonnet model.

This usually happens for one of the following reasons:

    • Your workspace isn’t on the required tier (Premium with Model Serving enabled).
    • Your Azure region or subscription type (e.g., sponsorship or trial) may no longer support this endpoint.
    • Databricks or Microsoft may have restricted access due to licensing, compliance, or capacity changes.

It’s not a user or token permission issue — this is a platform-level restriction.

    To resolve this:

    • Check if your workspace and subscription are in a supported region and tier.
    • Reach out to Databricks Support for clarification or to request access.
    • Consider switching to a pay-as-you-go subscription or supported region if needed.
