Hello M in New England,
This issue is usually caused by a misbehaving extension, experimental feature, or corrupted browser state. Here’s how to troubleshoot Microsoft Edge when it scrolls to the top or prevents you from navigating past the first page of search results:
Fix: Edge scrolls to top on search results page
Step 1: Test in InPrivate Window
- Press
Ctrl + Shift + N
to open an InPrivate window. - Go to Bing or Google and do a search.
- Try scrolling down to see if the issue persists.
If scrolling works fine in InPrivate, the problem is likely due to an extension or cached data.
Step 2: Disable Extensions
- Go to
edge://extensions/
- Toggle off all extensions.
- Restart Edge and test the search result page again.
If scrolling returns to normal, re-enable extensions one by one to find the culprit.
Step 3: Clear Cache and Site Data
- Go to
edge://settings/clearBrowserData
- Select:
- Cached images and files
- Cookies and other site data
- Time range: All time
- Click Clear now
- Cached images and files
Step 4: Turn Off Experimental Features
- Go to
edge://flags/
- Click Reset all to default (top right)
- Relaunch Edge when prompted
Step 5: Disable Smooth Scrolling (optional)
Some users report the "smooth scrolling" flag causing weird jumpy behavior:
- Go to
edge://flags/#smooth-scrolling
- Set to Disabled
- Restart Edge
If none of the above works, let me know:
- Does this only happen on Bing/Google or all search engines?
- Any specific extensions you’ve installed?
- Are you using a touchscreen or special input device?
