I recently registered my Surface Pro, the device appears in my account...but a bitlocker recovery key was not assigned. Can you tell me why this is?

I have 2 devices in my account, an HP and a Surface Pro, the HP was also registered and it has a bitlocker recovery key, but the Surface Pro does not have one, why is this?

I recently installed a windows update on the Surface Pro and the system died on me, I will need the bitlocker recovery key to the system going again.

Help.

    Hello LouisHP,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

The Bitlocker recovery key of a device is usually synchronized to the Microsoft account used when logging in to the computer for the first time, rather than the one used when registering the device, unless both are under the same Microsoft account.

So please recall whether other Microsoft accounts have been logged in on this Surface Pro. If so, it might be a good idea to check if there are Bitlocker recovery keys in other Microsoft accounts.

If you can't recall other account information, or if you have checked other Microsoft accounts but found no Bitlokcer recovery key associated with this Surface, then the only step to regain control of this Surface now is to use a dedicated USB recovery drive to restore it to factory Settings:

Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support

The link contains a complete guidance video. You need to first create a dedicated USB recovery drive for Surface on another computer, and then use it to complete the restore process.

For information related to Bitlocker recovery key, you can read this link carefully:
