You mention "read-only" in the subject of your question but not in the body. Please report the complete error message without paraphrasing.

There are several possibilities if you can't read files on an SD card when the card is inserted into a reader connected to your computer:

    • the card itself is damaged
    • the reader has failed
    • the files on the card have become corrupted
    • the card was formatted by the device in which you use it (e.g., camera, phone) in a manner not recognized by Windows

Did you used to be able to read files on THIS SD card using the same computer? If so, what happened between that time and now?

Can you read files on this SD card when it is inserted into whatever device you used to create the files?

What device was used to create the files on the SD card?

If the files have become corrupted, it's possible -- but not certain -- that a utility such as the free version of Recuva may be able to recover them: https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva
