Hi, I have a Windows laptop which has been continuously crashing on a blue screen loop and I could not get to use it, at all.

The laptop is currently running Windows 11 and has been working fine for a bit after the new version was installed.

Here is the stop code I receive every time: BAD SYSTEM CONFIG INFO![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/1cc623aa-2d17-46bc-8d70-664753f636ef?platform=QnA

    Hi VivTech1432,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Surface. The "BAD SYSTEM CONFIG INFO" error message usually means that something is wrong with the registry on your PC and you'll need to return to a previous configuration. Error 0x74: Bad_system_config_info - Microsoft Support

    Hi Hahn,

Thanks for your reply, I did visit the link you sent me about restoring my laptop from a previous backup. However, I did come across a problem.

Firstly, there were no backups available and secondly, I am unable to reset my laptop and instead it says something went wrong. Here are two screenshots for reference.

By the way, I have another problem.

When I was trying to fix the problem I mentioned in this post, I made a mistake in the Surface UEFI. I accidentally changed the safe boot settings to Microsoft only and now have no idea which one out of Microsoft only, Microsoft and 3rd party CA or just none is the default setting. Because of this, I am now stuck with the BitLocker loop (where it continuously asks for a recovery key.)

So I have two main questions to ask. Firstly, which is the default safe boot setting, out of Microsoft only, Microsoft and 3rd party CA or just none? And secondly, how am I meant to get out of this BitLocker loop now?

    Thank you!

    Hi VivTech1432,

The default Secure Boot setting for Surface devices is typically set to Microsoft and 3rd party CA. Manage Surface UEFI settings - Surface | Microsoft Learn

Secure Boot technology prevents unauthorized boot code from booting on your Surface device, which protects against bootkit and rootkit-type malware infections.

If you're still stuck in the BitLocker recovery loop after restoring the default Secure Boot setting, you can use the BitLocker recovery key to unlock your drive.

In your Microsoft account: Open a web browser on another device. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey to find your recovery key.

If that still doesn't work, you may need to try using a USB recovery drive to reset your Surface. Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support

I hope this helps. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely
