Thank you for posting your inquiry here in Microsoft Community, CharlotteNappi.

I'm sorry to hear that the printer is not printing with the color version. I will do my best to assist.

May I confirm if you're running Windows 10 or 11? What is the make and model of your printer?

Please also perform the methods below:

    • Check the settings for new Windows Update.
    • Run the System File Checker.
    • Install the drivers package manually.
    • Check the specific OS build of your Windows SettingsSystemAbout.
    • Download the driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Laptop 2 and click download on the next page.
    • Please choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.
    • After the download, runand installthe .msi then Restart the Surface Device.
    • Try to perform this methods and see if it will apply on your printer. Open the control panel > Printers and scanners > Click the printer that isn't printing colors and select manage > Click printer properties > Advanced > Select pilot "Microsoft IPP Class Driver" > choose OK.

Also, provide a screenshot showing the printer properties. Open the control panel > Printers and scanners > Click the printer that isn't printing colors and select manage > Click printer properties > Advanced.

I think I have Windows 11. I purchased this laptop about two years ago. I have the Serial Number if you need it. I don't have the paperwork that came with the laptop so I am not sure what the model is. Your instructions are somewhat beyond my expertise. It is like going down a rabbit hole for me personally. Thank you

I appreciate the confirmation. What printer are you using to print documents?

May I have you try this methods first on your Surface? Open the control panel, go to search bar then search control panel > Printers and scanners > Click the printer that isn't printing colors and select manage > Click printer properties > Advanced > Select pilot "Microsoft IPP Class Driver" > choose OK.

CANON TS6220. We tried your instructions on the e-mail about Control Panel, and selections after that. It did not work.

Were you able to print colored documents before? Try to reach out canon as well and see if this has something to do with the cartridges of the printer.
