    Hi Jim Mac Millan,

I'm a support engineer from the Microsoft Edge team, and I'll be assisting you with this issue.   I understand how frustrating this can be, especially when the browser doesn't open properly.   Here's how you can troubleshoot and resolve it:

    1. Restart Your Computer   Simple but effective — restarting can resolve temporary glitches or conflicts with other programs.
    2. Update Microsoft Edge   If Edge can open, do the following:   Go to:   Settings and more (⋯) > Settings > About Microsoft Edge   Apply any available updates.
    3. Clear Cache and Browsing Data   Go to:   Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data   Set time range to "All time"   Select cached files and other site data   Click Clear now
    4. Repair Microsoft Edge via Settings   Go to:      Settings > Apps > Installed apps Find Microsoft Edge Click the three dots > Select Modify or Repair

Note: If these options are grayed out, proceed to the next steps below.

    1. Delete Local State File   Navigate to:   C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\   Delete the file named Local State

    1. Restart Windows Explorer   Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)   Find Windows Explorer   Right-click and choose Restart
    2. Registry Check (Advanced Users Only) Open regedit and check the following paths:
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge

If you see a key named MetricsReportingEnabled, try deleting it.
