I cannot delete NON-EXISTANT ASR appliance in the Azure portal

We are attempting to delete an old Azure Site Recovery (ASR) appliance from the Azure portal, but continue to receive the following error, despite the appliance being offline for several months:

Error ID: 310161

Error Message: "Delete operation for this appliance has failed as one or more of the appliance components are in a healthy state."

This error appears incorrect, as the appliance no longer exists or has been powered off for a long time. We are unable to proceed with the deletion due to this misleading state information.

We have reviewed the recommendation provided in the error message, which suggests shutting down the appliance and then retrying the deletion. However, since the appliance is no longer present or accessible, this step is not possible.

It seems you are quite busy with other tasks to connect offline. However, based on the issue you have encountered, providing the solution as below

Azure Migrate appliances consist of multiple components (like discovery services, replication agents, etc.). If any of these are still running or reporting a healthy state, Azure blocks the deletion to ensure you're not removing something actively in use.

To proceed with deletion:

Shut Down the Appliance VM:

Go to the Azure portal.

Navigate to the resource group containing the appliance VM.

Stop (deallocate) the VM.

Trigger Deletion from Azure Migrate Portal:

Go to the Azure Migrate project.

Select the appliance.

Click Delete.

Wait for All Components to Become Unhealthy:

After shutdown, Azure should mark all appliance components as unhealthy.

This may take a few minutes.

Retry the Delete Operation.

@Rahul Jorrigala that was not helpful at all. I mentioned in my very first response that the ASR appliance was already powered off. Also it is not in Azure as it's on-prem.

Hello @Virtuas ,

Currently, deleting an appliance from the project isn't supported.

The only way to delete the appliance is to delete the resource group that contains the project that's associated with the appliance.

However, deleting the resource group also deletes other registered appliances, the discovered inventory, assessments, and all other Azure components in the resource group that are associated with the project.
