The short answer could be that you can't connect an Access accdb to a remote server.
I am assuming here that you mean a network server, though. Is that correct?

We do a lot of company work remotely via a VPN. Unfortunately, the current setup doesn't allow us to connect directly to servers via their names, only IP addresses. I have to add one network location as a trusted location to an MS Access database. If I try, the MS trust center keeps telling me that my security settings don't allow me to add this address. Without it being a trusted document, various macros don't work.

2025-06-26T03:02:04.3966667+00:00 Technically, yes...since it runs through a VPN, the server would be recognised as "part of the local network" (i.e. "as if" it was on the same network as the machine the front end was running on). The problem seems to be with the naming of the server using an IP address as opposed to a server name (e.g if a server's name is "server1" with an IP address of 192.168.0.1, the VPN won't allow you to find "server1" but will allow you to find \192..168.0.1. conversely, access will allow you to trust server1, but won't allow you to trust 192.168.0.1).
