PC corruption of Windows 10 during Windows 11 Installation Media creation to USB

Have been running Windows 10 on my PC for a long time (not sure, but it was probably loaded when I bought the computer new).

Was going to update to Windows 11 on that computer but the Microsoft app said I couldn’t because of hardware limitations, so I am in the process of building a new machine.  I knew I was going to need Windows 11 on there so, I used the current/old machine to try to create Windows 11 media.

Originally created a Windows 11 MediaCreation.exe = 10.5MB  on a USB drive on the PC [I now know that the ISO file was not created here as it should have been].    Went to Download Windows 11 and used the 2nd option: Create Windows 11 Installation Media  If you want to perform a reinstall or clean install of Windows 11 on a new or used PC, use this option to download the media creation tool to make a bootable USB or DVD.   Note: Windows 11 media creation tool cannot be used to create installation media for Arm-based PCs; it can only create media for x64 processors.  ç that sounded exactly like what I needed.

Downloaded it.. and removed the stick.  After that everything went to hell.  It restarted and tried to boot Windows 11…… !!

I have spent about 12 hours trying everything I could find on the Web to recover.  Nothing has worked.

    Hi Craig,

As you may know, Microsoft has implemented strict hardware requirements for Windows 11. If a system doesn’t meet these specifications, upgrading can be challenging without significant hardware changes.

If you haven’t already, I recommend using the official PC Health Check tool. It provides up-to-date information about your device’s health, helps identify any performance issues, and verifies whether your system meets the requirements for a Windows 11 upgrade. You can find the official Microsoft link here: How to use the PC Health Check app

Should you have any questions, feel free to let me know.
