Accidentally Deleted Arc Resource Bridge VM on HCI

if the resource bridge is deleted by accident, all the resources projected in Azure by the resource bridge are impacted. The connection between on-premises infrastructure and Azure can be lost and any operations performed through Arc can fail.

To reinstall the Arc Resource Bridge VM after accidental deletion, you need to deploy a new resource bridge with the same resource ID as the original.

When the Arc Resource Bridge was first deployed, onboarding scripts generated YAML files containing metadata (resource IDs, names, etc.). If you still have access to these files, they will simplify the recovery process.

Here are the steps to follow:

1. Copy the Azure region and resource IDs of the Arc resource bridge and any related resources.
2. Download the onboarding script from the Azure portal and update it with the original resource information.
3. Run the updated script from the same folder where the configuration YAML files are stored. This script will handle the re-establishment of the connection to Azure.

Make sure that the machine running the script has the necessary connectivity to the Arc resource bridge VM on the required ports.

Once the script runs successfully, the Arc Resource Bridge should be recovered, allowing you to manage your resources in Azure again.

If you no longer have the YAML files:

• Manually delete the Arc Resource Bridge resource from Azure.
• Remove any remnants from your local infrastructure (e.g. HCI).
• Re-run the onboarding script as a fresh deployment. Please note that this will require reconfiguration of the bridge and associated resources.

Hello, Does it matter that these instructions are for vshere and not azure local? When looking for the onboarding script and choosing the Azure Local option in Arc, it takes me to the deploy Azure Local section. Is there an onboarding script for Azure Local?

It is for vCenter and Azure Stack HCI. the onboarding script available for Azure Local environments (such as Azure Stack HCI) when deploying the Azure Arc Resource Bridge.

I shared this information because your message title referenced the Arc Resource Bridge VM on HCI.

Typically, It's critical component to Azure Local and deleting Arc Resource Bridge without MS guidance may cause irrecoverable damage to your Azure Local environment.

So I should choose the vSphere option although I have an Azure Local (HCI) instance? What about the vCenter specific commands in the script via the link you provided?

The vCenter option was shared for your reference. However, I understand that when attempting to download the onboarding script for Azure Local, it is currently redirecting you to initiate a fresh deployment instead of providing the script directly. Apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused. Since the Azure Arc Resource Bridge has been deleted especially in Azure local (HCI), a redeployment is required to reinstate it. Unfortunately, in this scenario, recovery without redeployment isn't supported.
