Dear Team,
Printer redirection from Windows 11 Home to Windows Server 2022 will not work because RDP printer redirection requires Remote Desktop Easy Print, and on Home edition the RDP client supports it only if:
The correct printer driver is installed on both the local PC and the Server 2022.
- Remote Desktop Easy Print is enabled on the server via Group Policy:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Printer Redirection Enable: "Use Remote Desktop Easy Print Printer Driver First" Enable: "Do not allow client printer redirection" = Disabled
- RDP client printer redirection is checked in
mstsc
→ Local Resources → Local devices and resources → Printers. - The Remote Desktop Services role on Server 2022 is fully updated — Easy Print has had bugs on 2022 that require KB5028185 or later.
If it still fails — it’s because Windows 11 Home RDP client + Server 2022 has known incompatibility for Easy Print with some printer drivers. Workarounds:
Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro (fully supports RDP printer redirection).
Install the exact native printer driver on Server 2022 instead of relying on Easy Print.
- Use a network printer share instead of RDP redirection.
