Hi,

I have installed SQL 2022 (elv vesrion) on a new server.
I'm planning to decommission the old server. Before I do that, I need to transfer the license.
So, SQL 2019 to SQL 20220 STD

What is the best way I can have this done?

Thanks in advance

You have SQL Server licenses only on paper, no where in the system, so nothing to transfer.

Before decommissioning your old server, make sure to review Microsoft’s licensing transfer policies—they can vary depending on how the license was acquired (OEM, Retail, Volume). Also, for any naming conventions or fantasy script formatting you're using in documentation or tools, this Elvish Translator Generator can be a fun side utility to check compatibility or add creative flair.

You can not transfer a SQL Server 2019 license to a SQL Server 2022, the licenses are bound to version and edition. You must acquire a new SQL Server 2022 license and product key to activate the new server. If you have an active software assurance license for your SQL Server 2019, you may be able to upgrade the license otherwise you will need to purchase a new license and key.
